I’ll give you a hint … the third letter stands for “Terrible”.  Let’s get one thing straight.. country music sucks.  I mean, it really, really sucks.  I know thats a pretty common view to have, but lets just drop the need to be different for a second, and be honest; it really just sucks. Sucksucksuck. Suck. Suck. Suck.

Whew.  Had to get that out of my system.

I mean, I understand that there’s a certain demographic, or whatever, that they are trying to reach, and I am obviously not part of that demographic, but that doesn’t mean I can’t bitch about how terrible it is.  And boy is it terrible.  I’d like to think that there is a little bit of tongue-in-cheek-ness involved when the #1 song is “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”, but I’m really not so sure that he’s not completely serious.

She thinks my tractor’s sexy
It really turns her on
She’s always staring at me
While I’m chuggin along

I have nothing more to say.

You get no mp3, because it would have to be a country song, and, just, no.

YouTube Thursdays – McMenamin’s Edition

May 29, 2008

OK, I’m officially living the college life.  Sitting at McMenamin’s, having a pitcher of Coors (or two), writing a paper.  I already know I’m gonna miss my 20s.  I can just tell.

Today’s YouTube Thursday video comes with the unbelievable fact that Kimbo Slice is getting mainstream attention, including a network deal with CBS.  The connection with my current environment being that Kimbo is just the kind of guy that I would pick a fight with when I’m drunk.

Sean In Europe 2006 – A Look Back

May 28, 2008

Cheesin’.

http://seanineurope2006.blogspot.com/

In the Summer of 2006, I traveled to Europe for the 2006 World Cup. In addition to going to two games in Germany, I visited Spain, France, and Belgium. I (intermittently) posted from internet cafés throughout the continent, touching on a variety of topics, and being throughly politically incorrect.

I recently revisited that blog, and I must say, sometimes my inside-jokes are so inside, I don’t know what they were referring to. Oh well. It’s definitely a fun trip down memory lane regardless. Hopefully I can go back sometime soon…

Today’s mp3 is a song I found while in Europe. I first saw it on a music video channel (I imagine they would not even allow the video in the States), but it was also played in nearly every club I went to. So needless to say this song takes me back to some great times. The ones I remember at least. Video below is not for the kiddies.

Sonidos Puros – Volume 1

May 25, 2008

Not to turn this into a straight music blog, I will review/write/ramble about certain songs/albums/artists from time-to-time.

Just PURCHASED (yup) the new Lyrics Born CD, and its muy bien. Save an unfortunate journey into Reggaeton (“Top Shelf”), “Everywhere At Once” is a pretty solid album. The fact that some of the worst songs on the album are the singles creates some irony in the message of the song “Don’t Change”, but whatever, it’s still funky as hell.

Other highlights include “Do U Buy It?”, “Whispers” , and “Let Me In, Let Me Out (Remix)”.

Last night marked the end of a six-week volunteer stint with a program called “Community Walls”. This program is run by Hostelling International and is one of their “Opening Doors, Opening Minds” programs. This certain session was run in collaboration with “PODER” at the United Methodist Church in Cornelius. The six-week session focused on what the terms “community” and “culture” meant to the students, who ranged from elementary school to high school. The culmination of the program was a mural created by the students on what they think of when they hear those words.

I joined this program on a whim, but came away very happy that I had contributed. There are very bright futures ahead of these kids, and I can only hope that some of them got as much out of the program as I did. Below are a couple pictures.

So my mom is engaged.  Without knowing the logistics, it gives me reason to post my top 5 ways to propose (and what to do if she says no):

1) Sporting Event – Classic.  Besides, if you go to a Giants game, and she says no, I’m sure Barry Zito is lookin’ for a little lovin’ these days.

2) Eiffel Tower – Also classic.  Besides, I already have my territory marked.  And if she says no, just a hop skip and a jump away from ending it all.

3) Via Text Message – Oh man.  As if I’m not going to do that.

4) In the delivery room.  Juuuuuuuust kidding.

5) Vegas.  If anything happens, I can just pay Seth Green to be my body double while I take the next flight home.  This video is not for the kiddies.  Or Jackson Pollack fans.

mp3: Big Bopper – Big Bopper’s Wedding

Showing Skin (aka The Sun Is Out Finally aka Yesssssss)

May 19, 2008

Man.. one thing about the weather up here, it really makes you appreciate the nice days. Spring has (finally) arrived. Sure, it was snowing in mid-April, but it has been in the 80s for the past few days, and (in theory) won’t dip under 60 until September. Working up the motivation to go to class is tough. Living in NorCal, I didn’t think much of it, but Spring Fever exists for sure. Everyone is so happy its ridiculoso.

Then of course, there are the females.

I’ve concluded that the second real day of Spring is the money shot. The first day, they are still hesitant about if the sun is really out for good, and you still have lots of jeans and even hoodies. But that second day…

What a wonderful time in my life. I would think, at 20, that my hormones would have at least matured slightly. Apparently I give myself far too much credit.

Here’s the biggest problem: These females dress like they do, and then if you glance (stare) for a second (minute) or two, they get pissed off.

How does that work? If you don’t want me to look, don’t give me something to look at. Hypocrites.

Intro

May 19, 2008

I decided that I have been having silly, stupid, random, irrelevant thoughts that needed a home. So here we go. I refuse to have any expectations on amount of posting, so it will surprise no-one when I get bored of this in a month week day or two. Also, I will attach a song when applicable, but go buy CDs, support local music, etc.

With family members across the country giving insight into their lives, I figure its only fair that I tell tall tales from living the college life in Portland, Orygun. For example:

Yesterday I was at Saturday Market, and as I was walking by, I heard a lady talking on a phone. Normal. She was sitting on the sidewalk in a lawn chair. Arguably semi-normal. Instead of a cell phone (or a corded phone for that matter), she was talking into a banana. And when she was done, she pressed a button on the banana, and set it down.

I wonder how many bars she gets.

P.S. Congrats to my moms for getting engaged
